A Very Fine French 19th Century Gilt-Bronze Figural Mantel Clock, Horloge à Poser, by Henri Picard and Fedinand Barbedienne - ‘F. Barbédienne & Cie. / A Paris’, after the model by Étienne Martincourt (French, died after 1791, master 1762). The twin train movement stamped 'Vincenti & Cie - 'Medaille d'Argent' pastille and further inscriptions reading AD / 567 & 610. The impressive finely chased mercury gilt ormolu body surmounted with two muses, a female figure representing Astronomy sits with a celestial globe, while on the right, Geography holds a loosely rolled map, below and ovoid gilt-bronze urn centered with a white enamel clock dial with Roman hours and Arabic minutes and signed 'F. Barbédienne & Cie. / A Paris'. The gilt-bronze base impressed 'H. Picard' twice on the reverse and 'JJ' on several ormolu pieces. Circa: Paris, 1870. Ref.: A2750 – Lot 10392 |

A Very Fine and Palatial French Louis XVI Style Figural Gilt-Bronze Mantel Clock. The vase shaped case surmounted with a pomegranate-cast finial and flanked by large satyr mask handles fitted with intertwined gilt-bronze snakes, amongst floral wreaths, ribbons and acanthus. The rectangular acanthus decorated base flanked on each side with a figure of a cherub holding a globe and a Putti writing a poem, both above a plinth decorated with fruit and floral garlands surmounted with lion-mask-legs. The circular white enamel dial with wreaths of flowers with Roman and Arabic numerals, Signed: Étienne Le Noir, Paris. The finely chased ormolu body, with its original two-tone mercury gilt, centered with a circular enameled porcelain clock face with Roman and Arabic numeral dials and inscribed 'A. Thomas - Fabt de Bronze - 56, Rue de Turenne - Paris', surmounted with a pair of playful seated cherubs amidst clouds and wreaths, the case crowned with a figure of a Gallic Rooster (Coq Gaulois - French Symbol), all above a carved white marble base with scrolled floral ormolu mounts and raised on six token shaped gilt bronze feet. An Important and Palatial French Louis XV Style 19th Century Gilt-Bronze Cherub and Maiden Mantel Clock "In Search of Love", the movement by "Samuel Marti et Cie." The large and impressive two-tone satin and mercury gilt figural clock with finely chased gilt-bronze (Ormolu) figures of a cupid (cherub) holding a floral wreath and peeking from behind the clock case onto a young scantily-clad maiden or bather, the top crowned with a plying Putto and all surmounted with scrolls, flowers and acanthus decorations. The circular white enameled dial with Roman and Arabic numerals. The bell striking movement stamped: "Marti et Cie. Medaille D' Argent 1889 - 108-10-4" and "L.R. BREVETÉ S.G.D.G.". A Very Fine and Palatial Pair of French 19th/20th Century Louis XV Style Ebonized and Gilt-Bronze Mounted Cartel Clock and Matching Barometer by La Maison Cam Opticien. The pair similarly surmounted with gilt-bronze ornaments depicting scrolls, acanthus and floral bouquets with fruits, acorns and a quiver with arrows. The cartel wall mounting barometer's circular porcelain dial with a glass cover, the face signed "Cam Opticien - Rue de la Paix, 24/ Paris"(faded) with the different atmospheric pressure variables in French "Tempête, Cde. Pluie, Pluie ou Vt., Variable, Bau. Temps, Bau. Fixe and Três Sec." The cartel wall mounting clock, also with a circular porcelain dial with a glass cover, the face with Roman and Arabic numerals and signed "Cam Opticien - Rue de la Paix, 24/ Paris". A Fine French Louis XVI Style Gilt and Patinated Bronze and White Marble Figural Mantel Clock with a Figure of a Drummer Cherub. The brown patina Cupid, seated on gilt-bronze clouds with arrows, flutes and a flaming torch, holding the drum-clock and a drumstick and with an arrow quiver and toumborine by his side; raised on a white marble base surmounted with floral and rosette ormolu mounts, on gilt-bronze toupie feet. The twin train pendulum movement with a striking bell stamped 'Medaille D'Or - Samuel Marti - Paris 1900' - The back of the clock stamped 'Fabrication Français' - 'Made is France' - 'Paris'. The circular clock with elaborate pierced case with reticulated panels backed with silk lining, floral roundels and fruit cluster finial, elaborate cast face with blue andwhite enamel Roman numerals, resting on a serpentine cartonnier base fitted with shaped gilt-tooled leather drawers, extensive bronze mounts with attractive gilt surface. The wall mounting cartel barometer crowned with a figure of a seated maiden amongst acanthus and leaves, the circular porcelain dial with a glass cover, the face signed "A. Crin, A Paris 9 de Rue du Faubgr, St. Antoine Vis, a Vis les Anfants, Trouvés au Coq." and inscribed with the different atmospheric pressure variables in French "Tempête, Cde. Pluie, Pl 2ou Vent., Variable, Beau Temps, Beaufixe Fixe and Três Sec." The lower part surmounted with a pair of cherubs hovering amongst the clouds and acanthus. Circa: Paris, 1870. Ref.: A1353 |
