A Very Fine French 19th Century Patinated Bronze Figure of "Milo of Croton and the Lion" after the marble sculpture of Milon de Crotone by renown French sculptor Étienne Maurice Falconet (1 December 1716 – 24 January 1791) currently at the Louvre Museum in Paris, France and another example in bronze at the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The finely executed bronze sculpture depicting the 6th-Century BC wrestler, from the Magna Graecian City of Croton, as a nude and muscular male wrestler, resting on his back, holding on to a tree trunk as he fights off an attack by a lion who is biting him on the leg, in a brown patina and raised on a green marble plinth. A Fine and Large French 19th Century Orientalist Style Life Size Patinated and Parcel-Gilt Bronze Sculpture of "La Danse des Oeufs" (The Dance of Golden Eggs) also known as "La Danseuse Orientale" (The Orientalist Dancer) A Model by Gustave-Louis Nast (French, b.1826). The deftly executed composure and poise of a dancing semi-nude figure of a maiden with her bare upper body sinuously curving as she balances an gilt-bronze egg on each of her index fingers and one at her feet, wearing a draped skirt enlivened by the addition of gilt metal jewels which hang from the dancer's belt, wrists and ears, a protruding gilt-cast tiara atop her head. The sculpture is raised on a carved do-decagon green marble base. This model by Gustave-Louis Nast, his most successful, was first shown in plaster and later in bronze at the Paris Salon Exhibition of 1880. Nast made his debut at the Salon of 1852 and exhibited there until 1881 and this beautiful and sensual model was one of his last submissions. Circa: Paris, 1890-1900. Ref.: A2137

Antoine-Laurent de Lavoisier (also Antoine Lavoisier after the French Revolution (26 August 1743 - 8 May 1794) was a French nobleman and chemist central to the 18th-century chemical revolution and a large influence on both the history of chemistry and the history of biology. He is widely considered in popular literature as the "father of modern chemistry".
